Ingredients
Scale
-
For the Sandwich:
- 1 pound shaved steak (ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 slices salami (optional)
- 2 sub rolls, split
- Salt and pepper, to taste
-
For the Garlic Aioli:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
-
Prepare the Garlic Aioli:
- In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
-
Sauté the Vegetables:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper. Sauté until vegetables are tender and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
-
Cook the Steak:
- In the same skillet, add shaved steak. Season with salt and pepper. Cook over medium-high heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
-
Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread garlic aioli on the inside of each sub roll.
- Layer cooked steak on the bottom half of each roll.
- Place salami slices over the steak (if using).
- Add sautéed vegetables on top of the salami.
- Place provolone cheese slices over the vegetables.
- Close the sandwiches and wrap each in aluminum foil.
-
Heat the Sandwiches:
- Place wrapped sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.
-
Serve:
- Remove sandwiches from the oven, unwrap, and serve hot.
Notes
- For an extra kick, add pickled hot peppers or a dash of hot sauce to the sandwich.
- If shaved steak is unavailable, thinly slice a well-marbled steak against the grain.
- To save time, jarred roasted red peppers can be used instead of sautéing fresh bell peppers.
