Description
A delightful blend of rich chocolate and smooth vanilla, swirled together to create a moist, flavorful, and visually stunning loaf cake. Perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup (120ml) whole milk
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp milk (for chocolate batter)
- Optional: ½ tsp espresso powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Prepare the dry mix: In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream the butter and sugar: Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix!
- Make the chocolate batter: Divide the batter in two. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder, 2 tbsp milk, and optional espresso powder. Add this mixture to one half of the batter, blending until smooth.
- Assemble the cake: Spoon the vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into the prepared loaf pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters for a marbled effect.
- Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
1️⃣ Don’t Overmix the Batter: Overmixing can make the cake dense instead of soft and fluffy. Stir until the ingredients are just combined for the best texture.
2️⃣ Perfect the Swirl: When swirling the batters, use a gentle hand. Over-swirling will mix the flavors too much and ruin the marbled effect. A few light swirls are all you need!
3️⃣ Check for Doneness: Use a toothpick to test the cake around the 50-minute mark. If it comes out clean or with a few crumbs, it’s done. Avoid overbaking, as it can dry out the cake.
