Description

A delightful fusion of creamy, cheesy white pizza and the crispy, golden allure of grilled cheese. This sandwich is comfort food at its best, perfect for a quick lunch or indulgent snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese (smooth and creamy)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
    • Blend ricotta cheese until smooth.
    • In a bowl, mix the ricotta with olive oil, minced garlic, dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir in the Parmesan and mozzarella until well combined.
  • Butter the Bread:
    • Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  • Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a skillet or griddle. Spread a generous layer of the cheese mixture onto the bread.
    • Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up. Repeat for the second sandwich.
  • Grill to Perfection:
    • Heat the skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwich for 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  • Serve:
    • Slice each sandwich in half and serve hot with a side of marinara sauce or a fresh salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Cheese Quality is Key:
Use high-quality mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmesan for the best flavor and texture. Fresh ingredients make a significant difference in the creaminess and taste of the sandwich.
  • Even Cooking:
Cook the sandwich over medium heat to ensure the bread becomes golden and crispy without burning, while giving the cheese enough time to melt properly. Covering the skillet with a lid can help achieve an evenly melted interior.
  • Customizable Filling:
This recipe is versatile! Add sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or even a drizzle of pesto for extra flavor. Experiment with different herbs or cheeses like provolone or fontina to suit your taste preferences.
