Description
Bread In A Bag is a kid-friendly homemade bread recipe where children mix dough inside a resealable bag, knead it by hand, and bake it into a soft golden loaf.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 packet rapid-rise yeast, 0.25 ounce
- 1 cup warm water, about 105°F to 110°F
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons fine salt
- 1 teaspoon melted butter, optional for brushing after baking
Instructions
- Add 1 cup flour, sugar, and yeast to a gallon-size resealable plastic bag.
- Pour in warm water, seal the bag tightly, and press out extra air.
- Squish the bag gently until the mixture looks smooth and combined.
- Let the sealed bag rest on the counter for 10 minutes, or until the mixture looks foamy.
- Open the bag and add 1 more cup flour, olive oil, and salt.
- Seal the bag again and squish until the dough thickens.
- Add the final 1 cup flour, seal the bag, and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover the pan and let the dough rise for 30 minutes, or until puffy.
- Bake at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the loaf turns golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter if desired, then cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
- Use warm water, not hot water, so the yeast can rise properly.
- Double-bag the dough if young children will press firmly on the bag.
- Add only a light dusting of flour while kneading to keep the bread soft.
- Let the bread cool before slicing so the crumb sets neatly.
- Store cooled leftovers in an airtight bag at room temperature for up to 2 days.
