Description

Punchy, salty, bright green, and utterly irresistible, this Very Incredible Basil Sauce is your new go-to topping for just about anything! Packed with fresh basil, chives, a touch of garlic, and a hint of Parmesan, it’s a vibrant and creamy herb sauce perfect for drizzling, dipping, or spreading.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (packed) fresh basil leaves
  • 1 small bunch fresh chives (or substitute green onions)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional but recommended)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (120 g), more as needed
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (25 g)
  • 1–2 tablespoons lemon juice (15–30 ml)
  • Pinch of salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Place 1/2 cup packed basil leaves, 1 small bunch of fresh chives, 1 teaspoon dried oregano (if using), and 1 clove garlic into a blender or food processor.
  2. Add 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese to the blender.
  3. Add 1–2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
  4. Blend the ingredients until you reach your desired texture. Aim for an almost completely smooth sauce with small flecks of herbs.
  5. Taste the sauce, then add a pinch of salt if needed to enhance the flavors.
  6. Blend again briefly after adjusting seasoning.
  7. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes

Adjust the consistency with extra mayo if needed.

Substitute fresh green onions if you don’t have chives.

The flavor will deepen if allowed to sit in the fridge for an hour before serving.

Delicious on sandwiches, salads, grilled meats, or roasted vegetables.
